Today I went to Franklin Field to do a workout Alison suggested. I did 10 x 400 meters with 30 second rests between. She said to do them at my 5k pace. However, I'm not real sure what my 5k pace is . . . but anyway, I averaged 1:50 for each (5th and 10th were 1:44). It wasn't that hard, but it also felt like a good workout. After I cooled down by running to the gym. Did my Pilates mat and then legs.

Yesterday I had a reformer lesson with Megan at the studio, but she's going on vacation and it will be my last until October. So, I really need to stay consistent with my mat work on my own.

Saturday I competed in my first Senior Olympics meet in Woodbridge, NJ. I raced in the 800 meters. I was excited because a teammate (Rob C.) who is 56 and a strong 800 runner was going to race, too. I thought this would make it easier for me to pace (as he runs 1:15, 1:18). I was hoping to hit 2:20 or under. I didn't, however. I ran 2:24 (a second slower than I was in June . . . but 4 seconds faster than I ran at Nationals). I stayed behind Rob until just past the 600. I used my finger timer, so I knew my 600 was somewhere around 1:48 (too slow to hit 2:20), so I sped up. I caught Rob and he said "Go for it" to me as I passed, so I ran as fast as I could to win the race. He had difficulty in his last 100 meters or so. I got the gold for 60-64 years olds, and I actually won the race against the whole field of 50-69 year olds. I was hoping that Rob was going to be able to stay with me so that we could push each other to the finish and get 2:20 or under. But that didn't happen. The 800 is such a difficult race. Pacing, strategy, performance . . . it's really a challenge. I end the outdoor season with my goal intact--to run an 800 in 2:20 or less. I will be training toward that end and give it another shot indoors!
