Saturday, April 25, 2026 Penn Relays 2026   My first time participating in Penn Relays on Thursday was a great experience. Last year my father's funeral was the day of Masters events, so obviously I could not race. But this year, my first!, our Men's 60 4x400 relay team got GOLD in our event, with stiff competition from the Southwest Sprinters team (which includes Masters track legends Michael Bradecamp, David Jones, and David Gibbon). Personally, I performed better than I could have imagined--running my 400 split in 56.87--bettering my PR in an individual 400 by 2 seconds! I was shocked when I heard the announcer reporting the leg time, was convinced it was someone else's or that there was a mistake. My teammates (John Curtis, Bruce Rash, and new team member Brian Howard) came through with strong performances, and we were able to hold off Southwest Sprinters at the end. When we lined up I noticed that David Jones was their team's anchor leg (he beat me last summer at o...

Thursday, April 16, 2026 From the archive--me on the curve in my leg of the 4x400 relay at the Millrose Games in February I've having good training weeks since my last post. I think I have mentioned before on this blog that I started using Strava last year. It is an easy place to record the results of all my workouts (when I press "outdoor run" on my Apple Watch, I am making a record of the run--and when I'm finished, it automatically uploads to Strava. Then all I have to do is edit the activity, add interval times and rest, and explain the workout). I noticed I used to write out here on the blog my workouts . . . Strava just makes it easier. Also, I follow/I am followed by teammates and friends, so they get to see what I am doing on the regular, and I get to see what they are doing. If you follow me here on this blog and want to see my weekly workouts, you'd have to subscribe to Strava and then search for me and click "follow" etc.  It is just too labor...

Sunday, April 5, 2026  ~ Happy Easter ~ It has been a while since I posted here. My last update was just after the PRTC track meet at the Ott Center in March. I mentioned getting sick the night before the meet, I think. Well, I got very sick! A cold turned chest cold with many days of hacking. It was pretty awful--I haven't had something like that in decades! I even saw my doctor, so you know it was bad :)  I had to take 10 days of antibiotics (which I hadn't taken since . . . my twenties maybe?) because whatever it was turned bacterial and was lodged in my chest.  I worked out some during those weeks, but it messed up my training plans.  Finally it cleared, however, and I got my energy back. I did a few track workouts solo at Ott and with Alison last 10 days or so of March into early April. I was trying to train for the meet I competed in yesterday--the Front Runners meet in NYC at the Armory. I wanted to run the 800 and 200, but the 200 was like 15 minutes after th...
